The Core Leadership Team has adopted the 2015-2018 Strategic Plan and an Action Plan with six Areas of Interventions and is responsible for coordinating its implementation. Members of the Core Leadership Team, through their sub-working groups, will be responsible for identifying, implementing, and monitoring activities under their responsibility.

Areas of Intervention

Area 1: Planning, Canvassing and Organizational Support

During the first year of its existence, the Core Leadership Team has set up a full-fledged organization with a board of directors and adopted the requisite tools for good governance – by-laws and regulations.

Having developed a strategic plan and a result-oriented action plan, the Team has mobilized some one hundred people. Through their involvement in sub-working groups, they actively contribute to the implementation of the action plan.

Duly incorporated in Canada and registered in Quebec, New Brunswick and Maine, it attracted over 73% of its annual budget in leverage funds which were reinvested in the region for various projects and initiatives.

Area 2: Economic Development and Entrepreneurship

The first edition of the Prime Manufacturers/Suppliers Event, held on February 8, 2017, brought together local businesses with the objective of facilitating local procurement for manufacturing businesses.

  • 10 manufacturing companies from the three areas of Acadia of the Lands and Forest participated in the event as Prime Manufacturers, with potential subcontracting needs of $15,000,000.
  • 39 businesses registered and 35 subcontractors/suppliers were present, 72% from New Brunswick, 23% from Québec and 5% from Maine.
  • More than 150 private meetings held between prime manufacturers and subcontractors/suppliers and numerous informal meetings between subcontractors/suppliers. Participants established an average of between 6 and 10 new business contacts each.
  • 2 purchase agreements were signed on the spot for an estimated amount of $110,000.
  • Several possible purchase agreements in the next 12 months for an estimated amount of $1,203,500.

At the request of manufacturing companies of Acadia of the Lands and Forests, the Core Leadership Team conducted a feasibility study on setting up a rail car ferry ramp in the region.

Businesses are working toward closer relations to meet procurement needs in the manufacturing sector. As such, a prime manufacturers event is scheduled for fall 2016. The Core Leadership Team regularly establishes business ties between the region’s SMEs.

The Core Leadership Team has created links that led to partnerships between stakeholders in the economic development of Acadia of the Lands and Forests. It contributed to bringing in experts, such as Michael Shuman for his lecture: “Going Local: Creating Self-Reliant Communities.”

Area 3: Access to Information and to Communication Tools

A communication plan has been developed to stimulate the flow of information across Acadia of the Lands and Forests and a press tour was organized during fall 2016 The Core Leadership Team hopes that a press club in Acadia of the Lands and Forests will arise from this tour.

A contest to promote the Acadia of the Lands and Forests region to a larger public, while simultaneously fostering cross-sectoral exchanges, was organized. 215 people entered the contest and a winner in each area of Acadia of the Lands and Forest received a restaurant and accommodation package to discover a different part of the region.

The website SucceedHere.org is regularly updated and registers a regular increase in its number of visitors. The blog is particularly popular amongst Internet users, reaching sometimes more than 2,500 of them per article. Success stories highlighting accomplishments that will benefit Acadia of the Lands and Forests are regularly posted.

6,559 followers are informed almost daily about economic and community activities in the region via our Facebook page. 1,844 people follow the newsfeed on Tweeter @Reussir_Succeed.

The members of the Core Leadership Team also receive an internal newsletter to stay up-to-date on the progression of every working group’s project.

Area 4: Human Capital and Cross-border Workforce Mobility

In order to build on human capital and facilitate the workforce mobility, meetings were organized with various actors from the education, technical and professional training communities of Acadia of the Lands and Forests. These meetings aimed to bring the region’s training institutions closer together.

A regional marketing strategy for Acadia of the Lands and Forests is being developed, also involving Intervention Areas 2 and 3.

Area 5: Cross-border Life and Exchanges

The CMA 2014 allowed us to restore links and we wish to continue to strengthen our economic relations, as well as our community relations.

In the wake of the forum on the upper Saint-John lakes held in 2015, the Core Leadership Team has brought together the environmental stakeholders of Acadia of the Lands and Forests to develop a project to protect a healthy and diversified fishery in the area.

In 2015, the August 15 regional festivities were held in Dégelis and more than 4,000 people attended. In 2016, it was Edmundston’s turn to hold the August 15 festivities over a 3-day period. The next August 15 event will be in Madawaska (ME).

Approximately twenty representatives of Acadia of the Lands and Forests’ cities and towns met on March 2,2017 at the Convention Centre in Edmundston for a discussion on “Residual Materials Management in Acadia of the Lands and Forests: Challenges and Opportunities”.

Area 6: Tourism, Culture and Quality of Place

International Snowmobilers’ Festival returned to Acadia of the Lands and Forests. The event was held on January 20-22, 2017. Snowmobile enthusiasts explored more than 930 miles (1,500 km) of trails across the areas of Acadia of the Lands and Forest in New Brunswick, Québec and Maine.

The tourism and cultural sectors are favourable to trans-sectoral bridging. The return of the successful International Snowmobile Festival is scheduled for winter 2017 and a capacity-building forum for tourism businesses held in 2015 attracted 43 participants from all corners of Acadia of the Lands and Forests.

The tourist map of the area prepared during the CMA 2014, has been updated and 10,000 copies were printed and distributed, and Acadia of the Land and Forests has been included in the Canada Atlantic circuit “Expérience Acadie”.
